The Cost of Cutting Corners: Why Early Noise Monitoring Advice is Essential for Event Success

It’s easy to underestimate the role of noise monitoring in event planning, until it's too late. This year alone, we've seen several organisers face serious repercussions due to a lack of proper guidance at the outset.
Two events in 2024 went ahead without appropriate noise monitoring in place. As a result, they were unable to provide the required records post-event, putting them in breach of their premises licences. These organisers are now urgently seeking help to avoid losing their events altogether in 2025.
In a third case, the organiser applied for a new licence without engaging a competent noise consultant. The outcome? They’ve been tied into complex conditions around monitoring and enforcement that must now be actioned under pressure.
All three situations could have been avoided with the right support at the right time.
By contrast, one of our clients approached us early in the planning process. This allowed us to review proposed licence conditions and challenge the local authority's initial noise terms, successfully negotiating more balanced and practical requirements. The difference this made to their operational flexibility was significant.
While noise monitoring might feel like an added cost, the reality is that failing to take it seriously can jeopardise your event’s future. Breaching your licence, or being tied into unrealistic conditions, can result in fines, restrictions, or even the loss of the premises licence altogether.
If you're planning an event in 2025, contact us now, not when it’s too late. A proactive approach is always more effective (and far less stressful) than crisis management.
